Trend Alert

I recently saw a belt on the River Island site  that got me thinking and its not very often a belt causes me to think! The belt in question looks like something you would use to harness a horse or safety gear for rock climbing. It got me thinking about how it would actually be worn, and that's when i found the Helmut Newton Effect, a new trend seen on the 2013 runways. BCBG Max Azria ,Jason Wu, Hervé Léger all featured this look in there collections. The look has a very S&M feel to it and gets the imagination going. The look is inspired by the famed black and white fashion photographer Helmut Newton. Now I will admit that I wasnt sure about this trend at first but I've really come around to it. If the look is worn correctly it can be very flattering and somewhat sexy. Its very similar to the idea behind the corset and is the perfect way to change and outfit up and get more then one wear out of dresses by mixing it up a little.

So i did some looking around and i found a few different vacations on the trend and ways to wear it and I must admit that so far I'm sold on it, but be the judge yourself.

Heres a look at how the catwalk attempted the look.

This is the belt that set off my investigation into this Helmut Newton Look.

This River Island belt is retailing at €54.00 , which frankly is a little steep for what your getting, but the colour does allow it to be worn with a wide range of colours and styles although the shine element on it may stop the pairing with certain materials. This belt would be best suited with pants and a shirt and is perfect for the office or college wear.
The belt is very similar to the brace look favored by the nerd trend.
Although this is a lot more sleek then geek chic.

Topshop have their own version of the body harness also.

This a slightly different style to the previous belt but its the same idea. Its more discreet fitting and would be perfect for someone who is top large and would like to emphasis  their waist. Its retailing at £45.00 which again is a little pricey but a better buy as black is a more versatile colour . The cut on this also means that it would be suitable to wear with a wide range of clothes including dresses and tops which also includes crop tops and bralets.

So there is two samples of the Helmut Newton Trend. Personally I'm on board with it and will be attempting it in the near future! Will you?
